One of the most important emerging crisis' in the 21st century that all nations and peoples together need to focus on is the rapid depletion of energy.  It is great to say that we will and can fix it, however more importantly than talking about it is actually DOING it.  In order to be able to do what we desire in order to conserve energy there needs to be funding, without funding nothing will get accomplished.  Whether the funding comes from government organizations or private organizations, everyone needs to and will play a large role in fixing this problem.  New research is being conducted daily by many oil companies and energy companies every day.  With appropriate taxes, and governmental incentives and increasing oil prices we can start to create solutions in the energy crisis.  This will not be solved overnight and most likely will not happen within the next century but we need to start now in order to get the ball rolling to take the next step towards a solution.
